How much does a Hot Tub cost?

When looking to purchase a hot tub, your first consideration will almost always be price. So, how much does a hot tub cost? 

Although many websites and articles can give an approximation of around £3,000 – £20,000, there are so many different factors and options to choose from, that it is almost impossible to say a hot tub will cost you X amount of money. In this article we help you break down the cost of how much a hot tub may cost and what to think about when looking to buy. 

Factors to consider when buying a hot tub 

Firstly, there are several things to bear in mind when starting your search.

• Type of hot tub: Hot tubs can be a permanent fixture, or you can choose a portable, inflatable option. Hard-shelled hot tubs are installed with a permanent base and cannot be moved, and although they are more expensive than inflatable hot tubs, they usually come with integrated features such as wi-fi, lighting, sound and are properly insulated against the elements. This means they are available for use all year, especially if purchased with a gazebo. They can be made using a variety of materials, but if you are looking for a long-lasting hot tub, then it is best to choose one made from acrylic, plastic, or wood.  Inflatable hot tubs are cheaper than their permanent, hard-shelled counterparts and are far easier to maintain. They are also portable which is a huge advantage in the colder months! They do still need to be set up on a flat base and they come with an external heater so you must be careful of where you place them, but they are still comfortable, and you can accessorise with lights or portable sound system so you still can socialise and relax like you would with a permanent hot tub.
• Space: Before buying any hot tub, you need to decide and prepare where your hot tub is going. Do you want it freestanding? In-built? And if so, is it going on your patio, a dedicated outdoor space, or in a gazebo? Once you have a suitable, solid, level area for your hot tub, you need to work out your specifications. Hot tubs come in different shapes and sizes, so it is important you choose a hot tub that fits your specifications. Remember to include weight! Especially if the hot tub is being fitted on decking. If so, this may need to be reinforced. 
• Usage: You should also think about what your hot tub is going to be primarily used for, if you are purchasing it for relaxation purposes, you probably won’t need six seats! So, consider how many people will regularly be using your hot tub at the same time. 
• Budget: Before you start looking for a hot tub, it is useful to set out your budget, so when the time comes, you are not setting unrealistic expectations for yourself or your household. We want you to be excited about your new hot tub, not wishing it had another 6 jets or remote-controlled lighting like the ones you had been looking at!

Budget Models

Budget hot tubs are generally priced between £3,000 and £7,000. Although we describe them as being budget, reasonably priced hot tubs are still often packed with features and are a good option if you want to have the luxury of the hot tub experience without the price tag!

There tend to be two main reasons why hot tubs are on the cheaper end of the scale. One is size, so the more people you can fit in your hot tub the more expensive it will be, the other is what type of hot tub it is. Inflatable hot tubs are far lower priced than hard-shelled ones, but do not have the durability. 

If you are looking for a budget hot tub model without wanting to sacrifice quality for cost, then the patio range of hot tubs at Hot tubs & living offer acrylic hot tubs (hard-shelled) from £3,990 and seating 4 persons. This is a good compromise if you are concerned about the longevity of an inflatable model but don’t have the budget required.

Premium Models

If you have a little more money to spend on creating your own outdoor oasis of relaxation, then you may want to consider a premium model of hot tub. These are sold from £7,000 to £13,000 and will be equipped with more features than their budget counterparts. Although extra features will vary by brand, this usually includes a larger space for more people as well as a higher number of jets. 

If you are looking for a premium model, then look no further than the X-series or lower end of the Comfort Line from Villeroy and Boch. These hot tubs are filled with extra features as well as their innovative JetPak technology. Their comfort line R6L comes in at just under the budget cap at £12,300 and their X-series X7L is a similar price from £12,100. Both can comfortably seat 5-6 people and comes with  Bluetooth® and USB connection as standard and an integrated sound system. 

On the lower end of the scale, you have the X-series X6R which is available from £9,550 yet still seats 4-5 people and has all the quality you would expect from a Villeroy & Boch hot tub.
